It is with great sadness that Clyde Region learnt of the passing of Ron Alexander, who held the role of Duke of Edinburgh's Award Adviser for almost 20 years in Greater Glasgow Area and Clyde Region.

Ron's funeral will be held on Wednesday 19th March at 1pm at The Linn Crematorium and a warm welcome is extended to Ron's many Scouting friends to celebrate his life at the service and then afterwards at The Kings Park Hotel.

It is with great sadness and dismay that I today found out what i thought may have been the story. I have known Ron since I became a young leader at the 2nd in 1980. Although I now scout in New Forest North Hampshire we had maintained contact for all those years as my parents still lived up in Scotland. If I was home to see them I would try and pop in and catch up with him. Ron's knowledge and capability were his drive through his many years as a GSL. I was priveliged to assist him on several trips abroad to Sweden and Denmark. In fact we had some great greenfield camps up in the Highlands of Scotland. My memories of him will always be with his smile, humour and enthusiasm for getting the task in hand completed. Rest in peace "Auld Yin"

Ron, you will be sadly missed by all who knew you. I was sorry to have missed you in 2013, but you leave everyone with fond memories and I was so pleased that we had some long chats and laughs together. RIP old friend.

I was saddened to hear of Ron's passing. I knew Ron from the RAF Shinfield Park veterans group which Ron traveled to our reunions in Reading several years running. Ron served there as a "Snowdrop", RAF Policeman, and was living on the site of what is now Reading University. Great commitment to whatever he did, great character, greatly missed.

On behalf of my family in New Zealand I would like to thank all Scouts Past and Present who gave my brother Ronnie Alexander a great last send off which he would be very proud to have been a part off and I am sure he will be greatly missed by all of you that he helped in the Scouts and the Duke of Edinburgh Awards

It was a great shock and with much sadness that I learned of Ron's passing.
He was one of the good guys and a real scout who always made himself available to help others. For me as well as scores of others Ron ticked all the boxes. Rest in peace dear friend.

Ron provided us with much advice and support and helped us to keep on track. Ron took time to come to Chapelhall to run workshops for our Explorers. An inspiration to us all. God bless.
