Clyde Scouts Becomes a Living Wage Employer
24th May 2023
Clyde Scouts are excited to have become accredited as a Real Living Wage Employer. This is a huge benefit for our staff across Auchengillan Outdoor Centre, Clyde Scouts and the Glasgow Scout Shop. This acknowledges their hard work and the rising cost of living. We want to make sure Clyde is a great workplace where our staff are supported to provide essential services to support the delivery of Skills for Life.
By becoming accredited with the Living Wage Foundation, Clyde Scouts is committing towards paying all staff the Real Living Wage (currently set at £10.90). This is a higher rate than the government-set national living wage and is independently calculated based on what people need to get by. The rate is calculated annually based on the best available evidence about living standards in the UK.
Katrina Watson, Chief Operating Officer at Clyde Scouts said: "All of the staff across Clyde Scouts are essential to supporting our charity to run. From instructors providing adventures and activities for our young people to our shop assistants supporting volunteers and parents to understand the uniform and badges."
Addressing the increasing cost of living, Kat said: "We want to make sure we support them to provide for their families and feel valued, so they can continue the amazing work they do here at Clyde Scouts.”
By becoming accredited, Clyde Scouts joins over 12,000 other UK businesses and charities also committed to paying the Real Living Wage.
