New Chief Operating Officer Appointed
24th June 2025

We have some important updates to share! Firstly, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Jill, who has recently moved on from her role as our Chief Operating Officer. Jill graciously extended her temporary contract, and we are thrilled that she will continue to be a familiar face in Clyde Scouts through her participation as Sub-Camp Leader at AJ25. Thank you, Jill, for your dedication and contributions.
Secondly, we are equally delighted to announce that Neil Baird will be joining Clyde Scouts in the role of Chief Operating Officer, starting mid-September. Neil is well known to many members, having spent an impressive 14 years at Scouts Scotland. When asked about what he is looking forward to most, Neil shared, "I am excited to take on the role of Chief Operating Officer at Clyde Scouts because it represents a natural progression in my lifelong commitment to Scouting and youth development. With over 27 years in the outdoor sector and 14 years in senior roles within Scouts Scotland, I bring a wealth of strategic leadership experience, operational insight, and a proven track record of delivering growth and innovation. My tenure as Head of Outdoor and Adventure has seen transformational outcomes—from increased income across Scout Adventures Scotland to securing national partnerships and influencing sector-wide policy through Scottish Government working groups. I have consistently demonstrated the ability to lead through complexity, build consensus at board and committee levels, and drive forward ambitious strategies that align with our core mission.
What truly motivates me is the opportunity to support and empower the people who make Scouting thrive—our staff, volunteers, and members. I believe in cultivating potential through strong relationships built on mutual respect, and I am passionate about creating environments where individuals feel valued, supported, and inspired to grow. As Chief Operating Officer, I will bring not only operational excellence and governance awareness but also a deep personal commitment to the values of Scouting and a drive to ensure every young person has the opportunity to experience its life-changing impact."
We look forward to welcoming Neil in his new role and are excited about the wealth of experience and enthusiasm he will bring to the Region.
