Support Clyde Scouts at the World Jamboree
About the Jamboree
In 2011 the 22nd World Scout Jamboree, a gathering of Scouts from around the world for 12 days from 27 July to 7 August 2011, will take place in Rinkaby, Sweden. The theme of the Jamboree is “Simply Scouting” – which captures the aspirations and hopes of young people for the future. This is no ordinary Scout camp; imagine a place where you can walk around and say "hello" to 30,000 people from over 150 different countries - where they'll smile and say "hello" back to you. During their time away from home young people from Glasgow will learn how to be both a team member and a leader, how to make the most of every minute of their day, how to follow their dreams and how to help make others' dreams come true. They'll find out more about the issues and challenges facing our world today, and how together we can begin to solve them and build a better world.
Clyde Unit
36 young people will be representing Clyde Region, along with 4 unit leaders and other supporting staff attending as part of the International and UK Contingent support teams. Selection was open to all Scouts of the appropriate age, with a commitment that full support would be provided to raise the necessary funds. Members of the unit have already undertaken several bag packs and other fundraising activities. To support these efforts we have launched a Jamboree Friends scheme.
Jamboree Friends
Jamboree Friends can share in the unique Jamboree experience and help us raise funds at the same time.
All Jamboree Friends will receive:
• A quarterly newsletter from the Unit
• A postcard from the Jamboree site
• A final report on the Jamboree
The newsletters will be prepared and edited by members of the Contingents, and will reflect on their preparation for this once in a lifetime experience. All we ask is a minimum donation of £10.
